All of the farms we source from follow these practices religiously. How do we know this? We go to the farms in person ourselves to verify! And also to create meaningful relationships with the farmers and pickers at the source! These farming methods contrast sharply with conventional farming practices, which often rely heavily on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides that can degrade soil health, harm biodiversity, and harm your personal health.

 

The core principle of Agroforestry & Regenerative farming is the promotion of soil health. Healthy soil is crucial for sustainable agriculture, as it supports plant growth, retains water, and sequesters carbon. Research indicates that these practices can increase soil organic matter by up to 30%, which significantly enhances the soil's ability to store carbon and improve water retention capabilities.

The journey of coffee from farm to cup is intricate, involving numerous stages that significantly influence the final product's quality. Among these stages, "Coffee Processing" (aka the drying phase), and "Storage" play critical roles in determining flavor, aroma, and overall taste. 

Processing coffee involves several methods, including washed, natural, and honey processing. Each method affects the coffee beans' flavor profile and acidity levels. For instance, washed coffee typically exhibits a cleaner, sweeter taste with pronounced acidity, while natural processed coffee tends to have a more fruity and complex flavor due to the beans being dried with the cherry intact. The choice of processing method can influence the final cup flavor and quality by as much as 30%.

Furthermore, the quality of coffee storage is equally paramount. Improper storage can lead to the degradation of flavor compounds and the development of off-flavors. Coffee beans are hygroscopic, meaning they absorb moisture from the environment, which can lead to mold growth and spoilage. All of the coffees we sell are grown, harvested, processed, and roasted in small batches ensuring the highest quality and freshness. After drying it is then Artisinally Roasted, bagged fresh, and shipped out directly to you never incurring excess storage times.

5. Non-Toxic Brewing Methods & Techniques 

The brewing process can significantly impact the health benefits of coffee. Non-toxic coffee brewing methods are essential for ensuring that the beverage retains its beneficial properties while minimizing exposure to harmful substances.


Traditional coffee brewing methods often involve materials that can leach harmful chemicals into the beverage. For instance, certain plastics can release bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates, which are known endocrine disruptors. Studies have shown that BPA exposure can lead to various health issues, including reproductive disorders and increased risk of certain cancers. Therefore, utilizing non-toxic materials in coffee brewing is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the beverage and safeguarding your health.

Non-toxic coffee brewing techniques prioritize the use of materials such as glass, stainless steel, and ceramic, which do not leach harmful substances, and do not alter the taste profile of the final brew. Most conventional drip coffee makers and espresso machines have lots of plastic parts, plastic hoses, and plastic reservoirs that can leach microplastics and potentially BPA's into your coffee. This is why we recommend either pour over, french press, or cold brew style coffees, as these methods can have virtually zero plastic involved. If you do want a drip coffee maker or Espresso machine consider buying a high quality model that is specifically designed with less or no plastic. 

Non-toxic coffee accessories also play a significant role in the overall brewing process. For instance, using non-toxic filters made from unbleached paper or stainless steel filters can prevent the introduction of harmful chemicals when making pour over coffee.
